The Target Center’s website on their record crowd number: “The event with the highest attendance in the arena’s history was the 2005 U2 concert totaling 20,200 fans.” Will the fire marshal let Trump beat U2’s record?

Within minutes of the Trump campaign announcement, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (DFL) released a statement denouncing Trump’s visit to his city.

“Under ordinary circumstances, it would be an honor to welcome a sitting President of the United States to Minneapolis and to showcase all our city has to offer on the national stage. But these aren’t ordinary circumstances. Since taking office President Trump’s actions have been reprehensible and his rhetoric has made it clear that he does not value the perspectives or rights of Minneapolis’ diverse communities.

“On October 10, our entire city will stand not behind the President, but behind the communities and people who continue to make our city – and this country – great. While there is no legal mechanism to prevent the president from visiting, his message of hatred will never be welcome in Minneapolis.”

Omar posted a statement to Twitter also denouncing Trump’s visit, “Our beautiful state welcomes everyone with open arms. But to be clear: we will continue to reject you and your campaign of lies and bigotry.”

Trump caught grief when a crowd at a July 17 Greenville, North Carolina rally chanted, “Send her back!” when Trump spoke critically of Omar who was born in Somalia and came to the U.S. as a child with her family as war refugees.

Jennifer Carnahan, Chairwoman of the Minnesota GOP, posted a welcome message, “We are excited to welcome
@realDonaldTrump back to Minnesota. The President visits on October 10th. Get ready Minnesota and Minneapolis! #KAG2020″

MPR News quoted Carnahan on Trump’s efforts to flip Minnesota:

“Placing this in Minneapolis at the Target Center, a venue with a significantly larger capacity than past rallies when he’s come into the state, indicates how optimistic the reelection team is, the president is and the Republican Party of Minnesota about our opportunities to flip this state’s 10 electoral votes on Nov. 3 of 2020.”
