Tucker Carlson has hit back at Shephard Smith after the Never-Trump Fox News host took a swipe at him earlier in the day to defend Judge Andrew Napolitano.
Smith was upset that former US Attorney Joe diGenova had called Napolitano a “fool” while appearing as a guest on Tuesday’s episode of Tucker Carlson Tonight.
DiGenova was responding to Napolitano’s appearance as a guest on Smith’s show earlier on Tuesday, during which he asserted that President Donald Trump’s admissions about his call with the president of Ukraine was against the law.
In a whining segment, Smith brought Napolitano back on and acted out an indignant diatribe about the commentary on Carlson’s show.

“Last night on this network, during primetime opinion programming, a partisan guest who supports President Trump was asked about Judge Napolitano’s legal assessment, and when he was asked, he said, unchallenged, Judge Napolitano is a fool. Attacking our colleague who’s here to offer legal assessments on our air in our work home is repugnant,” Smith moaned. The boring host continued on to list people he had found that agree with Napolitano.
In response, Carlson brought diGenova back on his show on Wednesday evening.
Carlson introduced diGenova and explained that Napolitano had went on one of the network’s day time shows to claim that President Donald Trump had commit a crime. He played the clip of diGenova calling the judge a “fool” and Smith’s response in which he referred to the former Attorney General as a “partisan.”
“Repugnant!” Carlson said following the clip, clearly amused by Smith’s statement.
Laughing, Carlson went back to his guest and asked once again if Trump had commit a crime.
diGenova then launched into an explanation about how Napolitano was wrong and his own credentials.
“Judge Napolitano has never been a US attorney, he’s never been a federal prosecutor, he’s never conducted a federal grand jury. I have done all of those things,” diGenova said.
“It doesn’t seem honest to me when a host, any host, on any channel, including this one, pretends that the answer is obvious or there is an ironclad consensus about what the answer is — when there in fact isn’t,” Carlson said, clearly speaking about Smith. “That’s not news, is it? That’s opinion.”
His guest agreed and said that people are entitled to their opinions — but that he is right.
“I can tell you as a former United States attorney — I’m right.”
Carlson went on to ask why we find ourselves in a situation where people are not willing to admit that their “passions” are “guiding their news coverage,” again, clearly taking aim at his anti-Trump colleague. Smith always plays himself up to be the “straight news guy” with no opinions, while belittling the coverage of opinion hosts at the network.
“Wouldn’t it be better if we just said out loud ‘this is what I think,” Carlson asked. He explained that he never criticizes Rachel Maddow for sharing her opinions because she is straight forward about her personal views and how they color her perspective.
diGenova went on to blast Napolitano for being a bitter Trump-hater.
“He’s a disappointed office-seeker, he didn’t get the seat on the Supreme Court that he desperately wanted, and he’s been mad about it ever since,” diGenova said. “He showed it yesterday and he’s shown it so many times over the last year. It’s pretty embarrassing actually.”
Carlson concluded the interview by saying that “when you who dress up partisanship as news coverage and pretend that your angry political opinions are news, people tune out.”
“They know dishonesty when they see it,” Carlson said.
