Personally, I’d consider it preferable if the realm of social media was more of an open forum than a thought police state.
Unfortunately for me, those who control social media have a different view entirely.
Man — isn’t that one of the most frustrating things in the world? “A different view entirely”?
“A different view entirely” is a jerk.
Yet, it’s what makes the world go ’round, and American discussion could, in my estimation, use more of it.
Brilliant Jordan Peterson (here and here) seems to hanker for more open conversation as well, hence his touting of a new free-speech forum on the web called Thinkspot.
The professor delivered news of the site — which is currently in beta testing — on the excellent Joe Rogan Experience podcast last week.
On Monday, he tweeted more:

A wait list? Sign me up.
The platform will allow for the monetization of original content, and thoughtful debate can be had without some stripe-shirted tech giant stepping in and blowing the whistle.
He vowed to good ol’ Joe:
“Once you’re on our platform, we wont take you down unless ordered to by a court of law.”
Fantastic!
Here’s more:
“We’re hoping we can really add dialogue to the podcast and YouTuber world. We’re also gonna do the same things with books, so if you buy an e-book on the platform, you’ll be able to annotate publicly. … We can do that with books that are in the public domain, too.”
Will the social media fun-for-all be comprised by just a bunch of dorks?
Heck no:
“We’re hoping that we’ll be able to pull people who are interested in intelligent conversation, specifically, into this platform, maybe start pulling them away from YouTube and some of the less specialized channels — that, plus our anti-censorship stance.”
Posts will have a 50-word minimum to help prevent trolling.
Interesting idea.
Jordan expounded:
“If minimum comment length is 50 words, you’re gonna have to put a little thought into it. Even if you’re being a troll, you’ll be a quasi-witty troll. If your ratio of upvotes to downvotes falls below 50/50 then your comments will be hidden, people will still be able to see them, if they click, but you’ll disappear … We don’t know if 50/50 is right.”
For now, the site’s invitation-only.
So who are some of the testers?
Why, it’s Skeptic magazine Editor-in-Chief Michael Shermer, YouTuber Sargon of Akkad, and one of my personal favorites, the great Dave Rubin (check out Dave’s show, The Rubin Report).
So get ready, tweeters and Tubers, we’re headed toward the Sizzlean of social media. No more heart-clogging censorship. If things go well in beta, you may soon be able to say, “Roll over, bacon, now there’s somethin’ meetier.”
