Appearing on Tucker Carlson Tonight, Vice President Mike Pence backed President Donald Trump on his “no wall, no deal” position.
The government has been shut down for two weeks, as Democrats refuse to provide a budget for Trump to build the border wall. The spending bills the Democrats have pushed through do not include money for the border wall and Trump has threatened to veto them.
“What we completely focused on is keeping the president’s promise to build a wall, to pass legislation that provides other support for border security,” Pence said.
Carlson asked Pence about if there has been any consideration into giving DACA recipients a pathway to citizenship in exchange for border security.
“There are a lot of people talking about a lot of different ideas,” Pence said. “The better part of a year ago, the president expressed a willingness to deal with the issue of Dreamers in a compassionate way for people who were brought here as children for no fault of their own.”
Pence added that while the administration is willing to work with Democrats to make a deal, they do not seem willing to come to the table in good faith.
“We’re here to make a deal but it’s a deal that’s gonna result in achieving real gains on border security and you have no border security without a wall,” Pence said. “We’ll have no deal without a wall.”
