Retired ABC News reporter Sam Donaldson said he has been asked by CNN for an affidavit in support of a lawsuit against the White House over the banning of CNN reporter Jim Acosta.
Acosta had his White House ‘hard pass’ revoked last Wednesday night after he assaulted a White House intern as she tried to take a microphone from him to pass to another reporter during President Trump’s post-mid term elections press conference earlier on Wednesday.
We stand by our decision to revoke this individual’s hard pass. We will not tolerate the inappropriate behavior clearly documented in this video. pic.twitter.com/T8X1Ng912y

As a result of today’s incident, the White House is suspending the hard pass of the reporter involved until further notice.

The US Secret Service just asked for my credential to enter the WH. As I told the officer, I don’t blame him. I know he’s just doing his job. (Sorry this video is not rightside up) pic.twitter.com/juQeuj3B9R

Donaldson made the announcement about the lawsuit in an interview on CNN’s Reliable Sources hosted by Brian Stelter. Donaldson said a hearing would be held on Tuesday for the suit.

Donaldson’s statement about a lawsuit caught Stelter off guard. After the show Stelter reported that CNN told him no suit has been filed, “”No decisions have been made. We have reached out to the White House and gotten no response.”
On @ReliableSources, Sam Donaldson said he's been asked to prepare an affidavit to support CNN. But no lawsuit has been filed. CNN said in a statement just now, "No decisions have been made. We have reached out to the White House and gotten no response." https://t.co/UYIgNIB8eJ
