Donald Trump can hold a grudge better than a Sicilian. It’s bad enough he gets his knickers in a twist when someone criticizes him. But if he thinks you rooked him on a deal, he’ll go all in.
Let’s go back in time to 1996. Donald Trump wanted a $350 million federal loan guarantee from HUD for some Manhattan project he was working on. One of the people in Congress opposed to it? John McCain.
So Trump had this big project, Riverside South in Manhattan, that he wanted a $350 million federal loan guarantee from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
McCain was against it.

In fact, McCain spoke about it — loudly — in the Senate. Here is what he said (part 1) pic.twitter.com/X1TJZuZNyK

More from McCain’s speech: “The Donald Trumps of the world can more than afford to bear the risk of their endeavors” pic.twitter.com/duHA29jREC

That is a strong possibility why it was 1999 when Trump first floated the “He’s not a hero because he was captured” garbage about McCain:
What a find by @JakeSherman – Trump talking about McCain's service in Vietnam during an interview with Dan Rather in 1999!
"He was captured…does being captured make you a war hero? I'm not sure, I don't know." pic.twitter.com/7009yMcbux

There is no reason to think it wouldn’t continue, especially if McCain didn’t “smarten up” and support Trump’s presidency.
Trump’s pettiness knows no bounds.
