One of the ongoing schticks in the media is blaming President Trump for just about everything. Apparently, Trump’s criticism of their reporting–and it would be charitable to call the single anonymous source reports that have fueled the whole Russia-collusion nonsense as either reporting or journalism–has caused the public to not trust their reporting and has put the safety of reporters at risk.
Trump has been completely correct in his continuous attack on the slipshod gossip-mongering that passes for reporting and we should hope future GOP presidents learn from his example. And to date, not a single reporter has been injured by an irate Trump supporter.
One of the most noxious purveyors of this mythos is the blow-dried, gardenia-scented wuss who is supposed to be CNN’s White House correspondent.

Just recently, Acosta gave an interview to Vanity Fair and he let loose on Trump and all the morons who support him. Here is some of the coverage:
Acosta, American Urban Radio Networks White House correspondent April Ryan and Washington Post White House reporter Ashley Parker sat for an interview on covering the “combative” Trump White House.
Acosta said that Americans don’t realize President Trump’s “act” when he attacks certain media outlets and refers to some as “fake news.”
“They’re not in on the act, and they take what he says very seriously,” Acosta says.
“They don’t have all their faculties, in some cases. Their elevator might not hit all floors,” he added about Trump supporters.
In an interview with Variety that was released on Tuesday, Acosta said that “people around the country don’t know it’s an act” when Trump refers to some media outlets and figures as “fake news.
“They’re not in on the act and they take what he says very seriously…they don’t have all their faculties and in some cases their elevator might not hit all floors,” Acosta asserted. “My concern is that a journalist is going to be hurt one of these days.”
Does any of this sound familiar? Because Acosta stole it from the intellectual leader at CNN, Don Lemon:
He warned of the consequences of Trump’s rhetoric, saying people “take that message seriously.”
“And if one of us is hurt or god forbid something else in some way or another because you either don’t understand the power of your words and/or you don’t care, it won’t be a fake injury or sadly a fake death, it’ll be real,” Lemon said.
Acosta, being Acosta and therefore much smarter than anyone else, defended himself.
Regarding my interview with Variety, my comments have been twisted by some outlets. As you can plainly see, I'm not referring to Trump supporters. I am talking about people who threaten journalists. Links to transcript and video below. https://t.co/SpEBiyVyQd pic.twitter.com/KZ7tkllEHQ

I don’t see how this helps him. Apparently, he wants to us to believe that he was saying that average Americans, even members of #TheResistance (because if you are talking about elevators missing floors you can’t ignore the rabid anti-Trump people of all political stripes), are going to be so incensed by Trump calling the media out on actually lying about things that they are going to start hunting reporters as though they were feral gerbils.

This is nonsense, of course. Acosta is playing to a storyline CNN has run at least a dozen times since Trump was inaugurated (I stopped counting when I reached that number).
There have only been, as far as I can tell, two cases of violent political rhetoric leading directly to actual attacks. Floyd Corkins tried to shoot up the Family Research Council because he was inspired by the disinformation put out by the Southern Poverty Law Center. And a Bernie Sanders supporter shot up a practice session for the House Republican baseball team, nearly killing Representative Steve Scalise, based on the incendiary, anti-Trump #FakeNews he was reading and watching.
