Dear Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge,
I wanted to take a moment to congratulate you on the birth of your latest child and a beautiful addition to your other children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. Even though we in the United States have been separated from the crown for over 241 years, we still take interest in royal news.
I personally have always loved and been interested in many things British.
The Beatles.
Tea.
Dr. Who during season 8 and 9 with Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman.
Your political satire, particularly the show “Spitting Image.” I know, I’m showing how old I am.
In general, I have always admired the British people for being stoic and resolute in the face of life’s different challenges and for your unwavering ability to keep a ” stiff upper lip.”
Where your country just absolutely loses me and makes me want to burn all things British, or for that matter the United Kingdom, is how you treat children with life-threatening illnesses. Your Royal Highnesses, how could this happen in your country?
I’m sure even with all the joy you’re experiencing with the birth of a brand new healthy baby boy, you must have heard about the plight of 23-month-old Alfie Evans. This child is just a tad bit younger than your own daughter Princess Charlotte.
According to Britain’s own BBC
The parents of seriously ill toddler Alfie Evans will challenge a High Court ruling preventing them from taking him to Italy for further treatment.
The family’s lawyers told the BBC that a hearing has been scheduled at the Court of Appeal on Wednesday afternoon.
The 23-month-old’s life support was withdrawn on Monday after the court ruled Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital could end his care.
Tom Evans and Kate James want to move their son to a hospital in Rome.
On Tuesday a High Court judge ruled that the family could not take him abroad for further treatment, but that he may be allowed home.
Mr. Justice Hayden said: “This represents the final chapter in the case of this extraordinary little boy.”
During the hearing at Manchester Civil Justice Centre, he said the best Alfie’s parents could hope for was to “explore” the options of removing him from intensive care either to a ward, a hospice or his home.
The parents of Alfie, Tom Evans and Kate James have been offered a chance to take their little boy to Rome for treatment that could save and extend his life.
The Pro-Life group Christian Concern has offered to provide a barrister for the family being they believe as they stated in a press release:
“Every human being is created in the image of God, and is therefore sacred and to be respected as valued and loved by God.”
I know your Royal Highnesses, you believe this too.
You have just welcomed your third beautiful child into this world. We have seen the joy on your faces as you have presented all of your children to your country and the world. As parents, you would do anything to protect these precious ones that have stolen your hearts.
Why is it then, that your country through its health care system and then the courts, blocks parents from doing every last thing to save their children’s lives?
Alfie is not the first to experience this type of third world treatment in Britain.
Last year, the civilized world watched in horror as two young parents such as yourselves, Chris Gard and Connie Yates, were not allowed to seek additional treatment for their child Charlie Gard. The courts refused them the right to seek additional medical treatment in the United States and because of that ruling, 11-month-old Charlie died on July 28th, 2017.
I know your country can do better than this.
The countries of The United States, United Kingdom, and France just weeks ago took action against factions in Syria for using chemical weapons on children. We acted because the horrific gassing of people cannot be accepted in this age or any.
We at least try to prevent kids being gassed, but now British courts are blocking kids leaving who are fighting to live? How does this make sense?
Prince William, your Mom the wonderful Princess Diana, was a strong voice for those who had none and were fighting an uphill battle. Whether it was her anti-landmine campaign, compassion for those with AIDS and the research for a cure, or her well-known support for the Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, she was a voice for the voiceless.
These precious children of God would be the same ones that Diana would have run to and embraced in a country torn by war or famine. She would have taken the spotlight the media and paparazzi had on her at all times and shared it with those who needed the attention to get them the help they needed.
Please help fill the void and BE THAT VOICE.
In closing, I would like to quote from one of the most famous documents that your country has ever produced in its long illustrious history.
The Magna Carta has been the blueprint for the Constitution of the United States and our Bill of Rights and many other documents around the world advocating for the liberty of the individual.
One of the more famous clauses states this.
No free man shall be seized or imprisoned, or stripped of his rights or possessions, or outlawed or exiled, or deprived of his standing in any other way, nor will we proceed with force against him, or send others to do so, except by the lawful judgement of his equals or by the law of the land. To no one will we sell, to no one deny or delay right or justice.
Children of Britain are being sentenced to die and stripped of their rights to live. Even though the courts’ decisions are “lawful” they are immoral and beneath a country of your proud history as a champion of human rights. My colleague at Red State Kira Davis wrote talks about some of this in her latest piece This Is The Real Reason Britain Won’t Release Alfie Evans To Italy
I know, William and Kate, that if any one of the three children you now cherish were in the situation that Alfie and his parents are in, you would put them on a plane and accompany them to whatever country offered them the best chance to fight to live.
Please speak up and be a voice for Alfie and his parents and advocate to do the same thing I know you would do, being I believe you love your kids as much as they love him.
Please be the voice that Lady Diana Spencer would be.
I sincerely thank you for your time and may God Save The Queen.
May the whole of the United Kingdom unite to save Alfie Evans.
