Keurig Caves to Media Matters, Faces Boycott Backlash from Outraged Sean Hannity Fans After Dropping Ads

- November 11, 2017

The popular Keurig single cup coffee machine maker is facing a boycott by outraged fans of conservative talk radio and TV icon Sean Hannity after the company caved to pressure from Democratic Party front group Media Matters for America after the group smeared Hannity over his comments about Alabama Republican U.S. Senate nominee Roy Moore and accusations reported by the Washington Post that Moore preyed on teenage girls when he was in his early thirties.

Earlier on Saturday, Keurig tweeted to MMFA President Angelo Carusone the company would stop advertising on Hannity’s Fox News Channel TV show after Carusone smeared Hannity as a defender of child molesters. Carusone and Media Matters have been waging a war on Hannity, trying to drive him off the air by targeting his advertisers. (Keurig should take note that the USAA insurance and financial company reversed a decision earlier this year to stop advertising on Hannity after a rebellion by its military-based customers and shareholders.)

“Good afternoon @Keurig. You are currently sponsoring Sean Hannity’s show. He defends child molester Roy Moore and attacks women who speak out against sexual harassment. Please reconsider.”

“Angelo, thank you for your concern and for bringing this to our attention. We worked with our media partner and FOX news to stop our ad from airing during the Sean Hannity Show.”

Keurig posted their Customer Care phone number in replies to concerned customers, “Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Linds. We worked with our media partner and FOX news to stop our ad from airing during the Sean Hannity Show. Please reach out to our Customer Care team at 866-901-2739. They will be happy to assist you with your brewer.”

This succinct response to Keurig and Carusone hints at the outrage inspired by Keurig in Hannity fans, “Boycott those who dropped Hannity”

Others called for a boycott with some observing Keurig’s timing to alienate conservatives right before the Christmas shopping season kicks in. Keurig machines as gifts are reportedly being returned or decided against purchasing.

And there is a #BoycottKeurig hashtag campaign:

Keurig was one of five companies who caved to Media Matters’ latest smear against Hannity. Others are realtor.com (@realtordotcom), 23andMe (@23andMe), Nature’s Bounty (@NaturesBounty) and ELOQUII (@ELOQUII)
